COVID-19: Service update
Keep Us Posted
We know that times are really tough for many of us at the moment, but if you are a commercial customer of Aberdeen City Council please do keep us informed of any changes to your circumstances which may impact on your waste and/or recycling collections with us.
We need to remind you that you are responsible for letting us know if your circumstances change e.g. if you need to close your doors for a period.
If you are a commercial customer of the Aberdeen City Council trade waste and recycling service and you wish to suspend your collections due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), please get in touch and we would be happy to help.
Going forward, this will ensure that you are not invoiced for services you do not need during this challenging time.
To request a suspension or reduction of service please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or make a business waste enquiry.
Do you require our waste and recycling collections again?
If you are a customer of the Aberdeen City Council Trade Waste service and have recently reopened after lockdown please don’t forget to let us know. Even if you are operating on a reduced level we may have to reinstate your waste or recycling collections to ensure that you receive the collections you need at this time. Please make a business waste enquiry to notify us or discuss further.
Changes to City Streets
To manage travel demand and adherence to physical distancing, the Council is rolling out temporary measures for city streets to allow people to walk, cycle, and queue for buses and shopping. Measures are being designed to support the NHS guidance on physical distancing and include pedestrianisation, pavement widening, temporary bike lanes, and one-way walking systems; for more information read plans for city streets.
Areas for development are the City Centre (Union Street in particular); Rosemount; Victoria Road in Torry; Peterculter; Cults; North Deeside Road and George Street. Many of these changes will affect our waste and recycling operations including our permitted loading and delivery times.
If your premises is within one of these areas it will be imperative you continue to present your bin/s from 7am as per our terms and conditions. This may be critical to ensure we don’t miss your bin/s. Do get in touch with the Business Waste Team if you feel that is an impossibility for your business/organisation.
As a business or organisation you must separate your waste for disposal under the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012. This means separating out paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and metals for recycling.
If your business sells, prepares, processes or distributes food, and you produce more than 5kg of food waste each week, then you must recycle this too.
To show you are complying with the law, your waste contractor should provide you with a waste transfer note. This can be issued on an annual basis as a season ticket.
The Council has a range of options for business waste collections. Bins are available to hire or buy and range in size from 140L to 1280L. We currently provide the following collections for businesses:
- Food waste recycling
- Glass recycling
- Mixed recycling for paper, cardboard, plastic containers and metal tins and cans
