In partnership with Creative Scotland
VACMA Aberdeen City 2020/21 Bursaries
In partnership with Creative Scotland, Creative Learning manage the Visual Artist and Craft Makers Awards (VACMA) scheme in Aberdeen City to assist individual artists and makers with their creative development.
Visual Artists and Craft Makers living and practicing in Aberdeen are invited to apply for a new round for 2020/21 of (VACMA) Bursaries of £500 or £750 for the development of their creative practice. The purpose of the scheme is to support professional development opportunities that are integral to the practitioner's artistic advancement, such as the immediate costs of researching, creating and presenting new work or advancing skills, technical ability and ideas.
(VACMA) aims to support practitioners who can demonstrate significant progression, artistic development and ongoing commitment to their practice, through the creation of new work, new skills and/or new opportunities.
Open to visual artists and craft makers of all stages of their career, living and practicing in Aberdeen City. Bursaries will be awarded to support the costs towards activities that are integral to the practitioner's creative development.
This year, in recognition of the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on individual travel and classes, the programme will offer fixed fee bursaries for the development of creative practice. The scheme acknowledges the limitations placed on individual practices and the opportunities that are currently available. The (VACMA) scheme offers two levels of bursaries and you should apply for the one that best suits your situation.
Bursaries of £500 are available for New Graduates /Emerging Artists/Makers. Applicants must have less than 5 years’ experience outside of education or training or to have graduated in 2015 or later.
Bursaries of £750 are available for more Established Artists/Makers.
Have a clear reason for applying, describe the stage of career/experience you are at within your creative practice and how a bursary at this point will support your creative experimentation/ development. For example, to support your ideas, research, skills and ability to create new work. Your artist statement may also be included to support your application. We want to hear about your work, your ideas and your experience.
(VACMA) selection panel will give priority to applications that clearly show:
Your application demonstrates an ongoing commitment to developing a high-quality visual art or craft practice and to developing the critical and technical aspects of your work.
Your application describes the opportunity for development and explains how the funding will specifically enable you to experiment and develop your work or practice. Explain how this bursary will impact on your longer-term ambitions for your creative practice and professional development as an artist/maker. This may relate to other projects or opportunities.
