Book an MOT

Our Fleet Services workshop can carry out MOTs for Class 4 and Class 7 vehicles.
From 18 August 2020 interim Covid arrangements are as follows:

  • Appointment slots are at 8am or 10am on Tuesdays.
  • Retest slots are 12noon and 12.30pm on Tuesdays.

You can call us on 01224 489300 to make, cancel or amend an appointment. Lines are open from 7.30am to 3.45pm Monday to Friday.


Testing takes place at the Kittybrewster Depot, 38 Powis Terrace, Aberdeen, AB25 3RF. Customers should go past the first building (follow the signs for Fleet Services) and head to the rear building. Office hours at Fleet Reception are currently 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

How much does a retest cost?

Generally the retest fee is half the full test fee.

If the retest takes place before the end of the next working day and the vehicle failed on one or more of the following items only there is no charge for the retest:

  • Access panels
  • Battery
  • Bonnet
  • Boot lid
  • Brake pedal antislip
  • Doors (including hinges, catches and pillars)
  • Dropsides
  • Electrical wiring
  • Fuel filler cap
  • Headlamp cleaning or levelling devices (that does not need a headlamp aim check)
  • Horn
  • Lamps (excluding headlamp aim)
  • Loading door
  • Main beam ‘tell-tale’
  • Mirrors
  • Rear reflectors
  • Registration plates
  • Seatbelts (but not anchorages), seatbelt load limiter and seatbelt pre-tensioner
  • Seats
  • Sharp edges or projections
  • Steering wheel

What is the earliest date I can get an MOT if I want to keep the same renewal date?

You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.

Can you issue duplicate MOT certificates?

Yes. To issue a duplicate certificate we also require a copy of the vehicle log book (V5C).  The charge for a duplicate certificate is £10.

How long does an MOT take?

We allocate 90 mins for full MOT tests. Retest slots last for 30 mins.

Can I drive my vehicle to the MOT test station if the MOT has expired?

Yes, as long as you have already booked an MOT appointment. Normally you cannot drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out and you can be prosecuted if caught. The only exceptions are to drive it to or from somewhere to be repaired or to a pre-arranged MOT test.

Can I still drive my vehicle if it fails the MOT?

You can take your vehicle away if your current MOT certificate is still valid and no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT. Otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive. If you can take your vehicle away, it must still meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times.

You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem.

If my vehicle fails its MOT, can you carry out the repairs?

Unfortunately, we can't carry out repairs to privately owned vehicles.

If my vehicle fails its MOT, how long do I have to get it retested?

Retests must be carried out within 10 calendar days of the original test date. If this timeframe is exceeded, then a full re-examination is required, and you will have to pay the full test fee.
